Aston Villa mourns club legend (†63) who died after a fall

Former Aston Villa player and coach, Tony Morley, has sadly passed away at the age of 63 following a fall.

The club announced the news on its website on Tuesday, expressing its deep sadness at the loss of a "true Villa legend".

Morley made over 500 appearances for Aston Villa during his playing career, and was part of the team that won the European Cup in 1982. He also had spells with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea, and represented England at international level.

After retiring from playing, Morley moved into coaching, and had spells in charge of Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion and Northampton Town. He was also a popular pundit on television and radio.

Morley's death has been met with an outpouring of grief from the football world, with many former teammates and opponents paying tribute to his talent and character.

Aston Villa chairman, Steve Hollis, said: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Tony Morley. Tony was a true Villa legend, and his contribution to the club will never be forgotten. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time."

Former Aston Villa manager, Brian Little, said: "Tony was a great player and a great man. He was a tough but fair player, and he always gave 100% for Aston Villa. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him."

Former England striker, Peter Withe, said: "Tony was a fantastic player and a great friend. He was a true gentleman, and he will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time."
