Andy Farrell names his team for the clash in Dublin

Doris will lead the side out in the absence of Johnny Sexton

Caelan Doris will captain Ireland in their Six Nations opener against Italy on Sunday. The Leinster flanker will lead the side out in the absence of Johnny Sexton, who is ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Doris has been in impressive form for both province and country in recent months, and his selection as captain is a reflection of his growing status in the game. He will be the 11th different player to captain Ireland under Andy Farrell.

Farrell has made four changes to the side that started the 32-19 win over France in November. James Ryan, Tadhg Furlong and Josh van der Flier all return from injury, while Robbie Henshaw comes in for Garry Ringrose, who is suspended.

Ireland will be looking to make a strong start to their Six Nations campaign, and they will be confident of victory against an Italy side that has lost its last 12 games in the championship.
